Tonight was the Arts and Letters program at my girls school. Only 3-6th grade are invited to compete. I'm so so proud of Callie! She won awards with all of her submissions.

3rd Place - Artwork
Her short story was so cute and entertaining. I LOVED it. I was pleasantly surprised when she agreed last minute to read her story out loud in front of everyone in the audience. I thought for sure she would decline. Her confidence amazes me. No way would I ever read a story in front of a gymnasium full of strangers.
Side note: Her and her friend Violet planned their outfits right down to the matching hair clips. I just love these cute little besties.

Callie’s Original Poem:
Sky Blue
When you hear the word “blue” what do you think?
Perhaps blueberries filled with juicy love?
Or maybe a singing bluebird in the trees?
There is also the deep blue ocean seas
But the most commonly thought is the sky
It is usually such a pretty blue way up high
That is why sky blue is a thing
It is also most beautiful in spring
It can go from blue to gray
From gray to shining sunshine rays
Though the sky can be more than blue
It is a beautiful strong symbol too
A symbol of hope, peace, and love for me and you
Callie's short story:
My Unforgettable Day
Buzong! Whoosh! Alien ship? Let’s rewind back to this morning. It was a normal Monday morning at school. It all started when my teacher said,” Good morning earthling, I mean student.” I knew it was weird but I put it out of my mind. Until my teacher started acting weird again. She said she couldn’t remember how to teach a lesson. My class didn’t even seem to care. So all we did all day was mess around and read our silent lit set book. Which I found even weirder because my teacher never lets us read our silent lit set book for more than 2 hours.
It didn’t occur to me that I didn’t have homework till I got home. Just to make sure I didn’t forget it or something I walked back to school to double check, since I live so close. When I got to my classroom I noticed a green light shining under the door. So being the inquisitive person that I am, I decided to investigate and look through the window.
Of course the curtain was closed so I couldn’t see. But I wasn’t going to stop there, so I had to find another entrance. Bingo. I knocked on the neighboring class’s door because they have a door that connects into my classroom. I could spy from there. But there was still one problem. Mrs. Chrianly, the neighboring teacher, would notice me spying. I had to create a diversion, and I had just the one.
I entered her room quietly and told her I forgot my homework. She told me I could go through her door, so I walked straight towards it then pretended to trip over the table with water and copies of paper on it so the water spilled all over the papers. My diversion was created. I offered to reprint the papers for her, knowing she would angrily say no, and she did.
Her exact words were,” No, you’ve done quite enough, I’ll do it right now myself.”
After she left I quickly ran over to the door that goes to our room and looked through the window. I didn’t see much but what I did see was staggering. I saw a darkish green figure lurking in the corner with a little antenna on top. It all made sense now. The “Good morning eathling,” not knowing how to teach, and the green shining light. My teacher is an alien!
The green alien face disappeared and appeared in the window right in front of my face! I screamed and ran out the door. I got onto the ladder on the outside of the building to get on the roof where I’d be safe from the alien. But what was on the roof was even more shocking. A UFO right in front of me! But how? How did I not see it before? I couldn’t believe it. I had to be dreaming. But unfortunately I was not.
I climbed down the ladder and ran all the way to the field and closed my eyes. I took one big deep breath and opened my eyes again. But now there was not just one alien, but 23 of them all gathered in front of me. I tripped over backwards and shut my eyes, expecting them to abduct me or something. But instead they ripped off their faces and yelled,”April Fools!”
It was one of the best April Fools Day tricks, and one I would certainly never forget. But there was still one thing I didn't understand, how did they get a real UFO on the roof?
